Tips for working with concrete cutters and grinders

Some tips and tricks for cutting and grinding up old concrete, including the selection of tools you will need to get the job done safely.

Keeping it safe!

Make sure you keep safe when using any tools, whether at home or at the workplace.

Hire a concrete saw

If you need to cut concrete, tiles, brick, PVC piping or other very hard surfaces, you could try a concrete saw. Concrete saws often use a water supply which helps to reduce concrete dust and increase visibility of your cutting area.

Depending on your project, you may require a smaller, lightweight concrete saw. This 230mm battery powered concrete saw is easy to use and ideal for indoor or high hazard sites. Low noise and only 3.9kg, use this saw for cutting steel, cutting PVC pipe and cutting reinforcing.

For larger masonry work, like cutting through large concrete slabs, driveways or walls, we’d recommend a heavier duty concrete saw. This 350mm petrol walk-behind concrete saw has a maximum cutting depth of 125mm and a 4 stroke 13.5 HP motor. With a continuous water supply which connects straight to the garden hose, you’ll keep concrete dust to a minimum. Our walk-behind concrete saws are heavy, so consider our range of trailers for hire too.

Concrete tub saws

For precision sawing jobs, such as cutting through bricks, blocks and cobblestones, you should try a concrete tub saw. This electric powered concrete tub saw is ideal for cutting through bricks quickly.

If you’re working with smaller materials, like tiles, a tile scribe cutter may be handy. With sizing for 360mm, 530mm and 720mm, this tool will easily cut ceramic tiles for bathrooms and other areas in your home, and is also useful for commercial projects. Maximum cutting thickness is 6-12mm.
