The Clash for Construction 2024 brought together 38 courageous tradies and industry professionals from the construction sector for two unforgettable nights of charity boxing. Over 13 weeks, these participants pushed their limits with intense training, all to step into the ring for a bigger cause: breaking the stigma around mental health and supporting Mates in Construction.
Many of the competitors had personal connections to the issue, either through their own experiences or through family, friends, or colleagues affected by mental health challenges. Their stories made the event even more poignant, with the shared goal of raising awareness and funding for suicide prevention programs in the industry.
This year’s events followed the remarkable success of 2023, which raised over $70,000 in Auckland alone. With the addition of Christchurch, the 2024 events collectively raised $116,182.69, a significant boost to Mates in Construction’s efforts to save lives and support mental well-being across New Zealand.
Hirepool was proud to sponsor these events, organised by Heavy Hitters Charitable Trust, ensuring that every dollar raised went directly to this vital cause.
The construction industry faces one of the highest rates of suicide, with nearly one life lost every week. By stepping into the ring, these participants sent a powerful message: the industry stands united in the fight for mental health.
The evening wasn’t just about boxing; it was a celebration of courage, resilience, and community. The energy from the crowd, the stories shared, and the passion of every participant showcased the strength of an industry rallying together for change.
Thank you to everyone who contributed, from fighters to supporters, organisers to sponsors. Together, we’re building a stronger, safer future for everyone in construction.
